Dr Ryan Nugent
Dr Ryan Nugent is a specialist ophthalmologist with an interest in all aspects of general ophthalmology, cataract, and oculoplastics. His surgical interests include but are not limited to phacoemulsification (cataract surgery), blepharoplasty, ptosis, brow ptosis, ectropion, entropion, skin cancer removal/reconstruction, chalazion and lacrimal (tear duct) surgery.
Having spent his childhood in Thailand and India, Dr. Nugent returned to Australia to complete a Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery from Griffith University on the Gold Coast. He began his career as a doctor working in multiple locations throughout Queensland before undertaking specialist ophthalmology training at the Sydney Eye Hospital in New South Wales. During his training, he has had the privilege of working in both remote, regional and metropolitan areas and was able to take part in several overseas trips to fulfill his passion for helping people in developing nations. These trips included work in Myanmar, Malawi, South Africa, Cambodia and Laos.
After obtaining his fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, Dr. Nugent worked as a consultant in regional Tasmania before making the move overseas to Calgary, Canada where he undertook further subspeciality training in Oculoplastics and Lacrimal Surgery (tear duct surgery) and perhaps to satisfy his love of the outdoors!
Dr. Nugent is a published author in international Ophthalmology journals and has presented at both COS (Canadian Ophthalmological Society) and ASOPRS (American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery) meetings.
Outside of Ophthalmology, Dr. Nugent enjoys fly fishing, hiking, playing guitar and spending time with his wife, daughter and son.
